PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Mar 15 (ACN) After finishing the work of waterproofing the roofs of the Abel Santamaria Cuadrado general teaching hospital, Pinar del Rio has reestablished the elective ophthalmologic surgery service.
With the passage of hurricane Ian, in September 2022, the health care center suffered infrastructure damages that prevented these procedures.
We perform around 40 surgical procedures a day in three main positions, and sometimes we use a fourth one, Dr. Jose Carlos Moreno Dominguez, head of the provincial Ophthalmology group, told the press.
We are looking for ways to speed up the attention to patients pending the constructive rehabilitation period of the area and thus improve their quality of life, he added.
He pointed out that cataract and oculoplasty surgeries are currently being performed, as well as some retina procedures.
About 80 specialists and residents provide care to patients from all the municipalities of the territory who require it, Moreno Dominguez emphasized.
