Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, March 21 (ACN) An equine therapy program in this central eastern city is currently providing rehabilitation to 44 challenged children.
Iliana Gonzalez is the mother of a child who was submitted to surgery after a stroke and other cerebral conditions. She resorted to the equine program, called Esperanza Project, which uses horses to help cognitive, physical, emotional and social development of persons challenged by different conditions.
Nearly 10 years ago, Iliana’s child was in very difficult conditions when she resorted to the equine therapy program. She told ACN that her child experienced advancement in the language and managed to walk thanks to the assistance of the multidisciplinary team which assisted him.
At 19, Iliana’s child receives assistance by different health institutions in Sancti Spiritus, while his mother is very grateful to equine therapy program.
Therapist Elena Cepeda said that they consider the conditions of the children to decide what kind of exercises they need. She was proud to recall that many come facing difficulties to walk or move and with the time and therapy they manage to do it.
