Over 2 thousand Health Specialists from Guantanamo Assist 45 Nations

Havana, Feb 8 (ACN) Some 23 thousand 792 Cuban health workers are currently offering their services in 56 countries and more than 2 thousand 200 of them are from the eastern province of Guantanamo.

The Guantanamo health workers are currently working the outskirts of big cities and rural areas of 45 countries of the world, mostly in Venezuela said Doctor Nael Preval, provincial health director, who also mentioned other countries like Italy, Qatar, Portugal, Mexico and Honduras.

Meanwhile, five doctors from the eastern province are part of the Henry Reeve International Contingent specialized in disasters and serious epidemics, founded in 2005. The specialized contingent assisted 39 Latin American, Caribbean, European and African countries against Ebola between 2014 and 2015 and against the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.

Doctor Preval said that Cuban medicine is renowned for its quality around the world and he stressed the humanistic thinking of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro major promoter of international missions.

Cuba first medical cooperation mission took place in 1963 when Cuban doctors went to offer their internationalist services in Algeria, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
