Cuba Advances Research on Anti-viral, Anti-bacterial Natural Product

Havana, Jan 11 (ACN) Cuban scientists are advancing research studies on a natural product known as Curmeric with proven anti-viral and anti-bacterial action, particularly against Dengue Fever and Helicobacter pylori.

Tania Valdes, who heads the specialized labs developed by the Havana-based Calixto Garcia University Hospital and the Nuclear Development and Technological Apps Center, said that these two institutions are leading the ongoing research studies, which also include the development of ear drops and anti-microbic creams.

Valdes said that since 2011, experts are developing capsules to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic and non-transmissible diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and others.

The administration of Curmeric to over 100 thousand patients proved the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 transmission and improves the symptoms, said the expert.

Curmeric, developed at the Medilip pharmaceutical lab in eastern Granma province, contains extract of Curcuma longa and it’s available at Cuban drugstores.
