HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 30 (ACN) A group of 50 Cuban doctors arrived in Calabria, southern Italy, to provide assistance in that region, which is facing a health emergency due to lack of personnel.
According to a statement from the Cuban foreign ministry, the specialists will begin a training course at the University of Calabria on January 2, and as soon as they are ready, they will start working in hospitals in the region.
Roberto Occhiuto, president of that territory, highlighted in his Facebook profile the arrival of the doctors in his country and indicated that they will help to keep Calabrian wards and hospitals open.
Occhiuto pointed out that this region in the south of the Italic Peninsula seeks to guarantee all the tools at its disposal for the care of the citizens, in the face of the health emergency.
In 2020, Cuban brigades of the Henry Reeve Medical Contingent assisted the Italian regions of Crema and Turin, during the confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
