HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 19 (acn) Prestigious personalities of world biotechnology like Richard John Roberts, winner of the Nobel Medicine Prize, will participate in the International Congress on Biotechnology, scheduled for December 1-4 in this capital.
Taking part in this edition, dedicated to agro-biotechnology, will be 400 delegates of 34 nations, informed on Tuesday Doctor Eulogio Pimentel, president of the Organizing Committee and deputy director of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).
Pimentel pointed out that among delegates that have already confirmed their attendance we find Belgian scientist Marc Van Montagu, a pioneer of molecular biotechnology in plants and winner of the World Food Prize, and Alberto Pantoja, regional specialist of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He explained that a total of 314 scientific papers will be presented during the meeting, related to aquatic biotechnology, animal health, technologies of enzymes and transgenic plants.
Likewise, there will be debates on the plant-pathogen molecular interaction and a presentation of bio-products for agriculture.
An exhibition of consumables, technologies and equipment used in this sector will also be part of the program.
