Health Authorities Raise Awareness against Dengue Spread

Camaguey, Oct 5 (ACN) Health authorities in eastern Camaguey province call for higher awareness and action by corresponding state agencies amidst growing spread of dengue fever in all 13 municipalities of the territory.

Although the number of cases testing positive to dengue has lowered over the past four weeks, residents must keep taking action because most mosquito breeding sits have been found in water tanks inside homes, said Iluminada Menendez, director of Camaguey’s Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology.

The Mosquito Aedes aegypti is the carrier of dengue fever, zika, chikungunya and yellow fever.

Menendez described the local environmental scenario as complex due to the growing number of garbage dumping sites, and waste water spills, which demands immediate action by corresponding agencies, according to the webpage of the local Cadena Agramonte radio station.

Main sanitation actions include the fumigation against mosquitos in some 40 thousand homes in the municipality of Camaguey, with the highest epidemiological risk level.

The official recalled the importance of medical assistance in detecting the disease symptoms, which frequently appear during the fourth and fifth day.
