Cuban Biotech is an Example for the World, says Indian Activist

Havana, July 1 (ACN) We’d like to spread Cuba’s experience in Biotechnology as an example for the world said the executive director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, Vijay Prashad.

During celebrations for the 36th birthday of the Havana-based Genetic Engineer and Biotech Center (CIGB), the Indian historian and journalist met with Cuban scientists on the main achievements in the biotech sector.

Having eradicated Hepatitis B and having faced the COVID-18 pandemic with homegrown vaccines are achievements which other Latin American, African and Asian nations would like to share, he said.

CIGB director Marta Ayala stressed the importance of having a dialog during celebrations at her institute with a person interested in the Cuban experiences and the achievements of the revolution in developing biotechnology and public health.

Prashad said the Cuba people is luck for having a scientific institution whose products can face world epidemics.

CIGB’s Miladys Limonta stressed the success of Cuban scientists who produced the Abdala COVID-19 vaccine, whose use has been authorized in several nations.

The meeting was attended by Dominican Manolo de los Santos, founder and co-director of the People’s Forum project, who is visiting Cuba along Prashad.
