HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 3 (ACN) The Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies mourned in Havana the recent death of Manuel Joaquin Alvarez Gonzalez, head of its National Program for Integral and Sustainable Energy Development.
Alvarez Gonzales was in charge of projects for the development and technological innovation of solar thermal equipment, including solar heaters and dryers for agricultural and industrial products, distillers and the design of photoreactors for heterogeneous catalysis.
He achieved a patent for the climate-controlled solar chamber for the cultivation of tropical plants, better known as Veranero, and accumulated numerous publications on renewable energy sources in the national and international fields, including the Manual for solar heaters.
He also combined these functions with the leadership of the Solar Energy Research Group in the Physics Department of the Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics.
The eminent scientist was a founding member of the Cuban society for the promotion of renewable energy sources and environmental respect (CUBASOLAR) and a member of the Cuban physics society.
