Cuba reported lowest number of COVID-19 cases in 2022

HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) Cuba reported in the most recent week the lowest number of COVID-19 cases of the year, by reporting 609 new patients confirmed with the disease.

Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health, reported at the usual Monday press conference on the behavior of the current pandemic, that the figure represents 240 fewer cases than those confirmed in the previous week, thus maintaining a reduction for seven consecutive weeks.

From January to May 14, the country has reported 1,458 positive cases of SARVS-CoV-2, which represents 6,521 less than in the same period of the previous year and in the recent week (from May 7 to 14) the country registered a positivity of 1.7 %, which is the lowest figure of the current year.

In addition, the number of imported cases decreased; 37 cases were detected during the week.

Regarding pediatric patients, Duran Garcia highlighted the decrease for seven consecutive weeks in the number of positives in this age group (274 cases, 39 cases per day on average), the lowest number of this indicator in 2022.

There are 10 patients in ICU, including one in critical and nine in serious condition, while 71 medical discharges have been granted.

He regretted the death of two people during the week.

To date, and since March 2020, Cuba has accumulated 1,104,589 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 and 8,529 deaths due to COVID-19, while 1,095,534 patients have recovered from the disease, a figure that represents 99.2% of the infections.
