Children in Central Cuba Receive COVID-19 Booster

Sancti Spiritus, May 3 (ACN) Children between 12 and 18 years of age in this central Cuban province are being administered a locally developed COVID-19 booster vaccine as part of the massive immunization campaign against the epidemic underway in Cuba since mid-2021.

Some 29 thousand 150 children will receive the shot in 15 days, while a certain number of kids who suffered from COVID-19 must wait six months after hospital discharge to get the booster vaccine.

Over 425 thousand children over two years of age have already met the three-shot vaccination scheme, some 99 percent of all eligible kids to be vaccinated, said Yadimy Diaz, advisor with the vaccination program in the province.

Doctor Agnie Fernandez, expert with the Acute Respiratory Infections and TB Program said that since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the city of Trinidad in March 2020, the province has reported 69 thousand 616 confirmed cases, 848 of them imported.
