Cuban experts highlight the country's strategy in the control of COVID-19

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 26 (ACN) Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology of the Cuban ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym), highlighted today the work and comprehensive management that have allowed Cuba to better control the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his conference as part of the BioHabana 2022 International Congress, at the Havana Convention Center, he referred to the country's approach to the health emergency, based on the active search for cases, preventive isolation, timely diagnosis and individualized treatment.

He also described as fundamental the integral participation of the entire population and related organizations in the containment of SARS-CoV-2, as well as the creation of 27 molecular biology laboratories in all the provinces of the country for the timely detection of the virus.

At the same time, Dr. Maria Guadalupe Guzman, from the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, affirmed that Cuba has maintained epidemiological surveillance of the pathogen since its outbreak.

Jose Angel Portal Miranda, minister of public health, in presenting the master conference Cuba's response to face COVID-19, said that the timely implementation of measures and actions for the prevention and control of the virus, as well as the role of human and scientific capital were decisive.

He also highlighted the rapid actions of the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry in the face of the health emergency, and mentioned the multiple drugs used as part of this protocol, which made it possible to achieve high recovery rates, among them, the early use of antiviral drugs such as interferons and Nasalferon, and innovative products such as Jusvinza, Itolizumab and Nimotuzumab.

Portal Miranda defined the Cuban vaccination strategy as one of the most comprehensive actions and highlighted that Cuba is among the first nations at international level for its vaccination level, as well as being the country that has achieved progress in immunization in the shortest time.

BioHabana 2022 International Congress will be held until next Friday, April 29 at the Havana Convention Center in a virtual format, with the participation of more than 900 delegates and guests from 51 countries, including scientists, technologists and specialists in the health and business sectors.
