Cuban Alzheimer Product Approved by Local Regulatory Authority

Havana, March 8 (ACN) The Havana-based Molecular Immunology Center announced the approval by the local drugs regulatory authority of the product known as NeuroEpo, to treat patients suffering from moderate and slight Alzheimer disease.

The announcement is an important result of Cuban science, said the general director of the Immunology Center Eduardo Ojito, who added that the new product is based on a nasal formula of recombinant Erythropoietin.

The clinical trial phase II and III revealed that the treatment with NeuroEpo during 48 weeks was safe and well tolterated by patients, now serious adverse events, and a large number of patients showed a reduction in the progression of cognitive deterioration.

The world currently counts on only six drugs to fight the Alzheimer disease effects, all are very costly and treatments can cost up to 80 thousand dollars a year.
