Cuban eastern province reaches 90 % of the population with complete vaccination scheme

HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jan 18 (ACN) Ninety percent of the population of the province of Holguin, which exceeds one million inhabitants, already has the complete anti-COVID-19 vaccination scheme, from the application of the Cuban immunogen Abdala, with 100 % effectiveness in the prevention of severe disease and death.

Since the beginning of the application of the doses in May 2020 to risk groups, nearly three million doses have been administered, prioritizing health personnel, the elderly, transplant patients, pregnant women and postpartum women, among other population groups vulnerable to the novel coronavirus due to their age or associated chronic diseases.

Ruben Sierra, a specialist of the Provincial Public Health Directorate, indicated to the Cuban News Agency that the established exclusion criteria are maintained within the vaccination program, among them oncological treatments or high doses of steroids.

At the same time, the administration of the booster is progressing in the province, with more than 200 sites equipped, where the organization and preparation of the human capital are being maintained, according to the protocols established by the Ministry of Public Health, he stressed.
The province has increased in recent days the number of positive cases of the pandemic, so the application of Abdala must be accompanied by greater discipline in the use of mask, hand washing and social distancing.
