Digitalization gains ground in eastern Cuba’s public health services

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Dec 23 (ACN) As part of the programs for the informatization of Cuban society, the public health sector in the province of Holguin is expanding the digitalization of the COVID-19 vaccination process, one of the steps involved in border control.

Alexander Leyva, head of the ICT department of that branch, told ACN that more than 68% of the doses administered (over two million) are already registered in automated systems, which contributes to the use of digital vaccination passports.

“This alternative also makes it possible to update the immunization system with the vaccines Abdala and Soberana 02 and therefore speed up the entry and exit of travelers in our airports,” he explained.

The Frank País International Airport, located in the provincial capital city, has in place the D' viajeros website, very effective for the quick access to the migratory, sanitary and customs information of the traveler to facilitate the epidemiological surveillance.

“Following the new outbreaks of COVID-19,” he added, “we also implemented a number of applications in the province to improve the processing of statistical data and the reports of PCR tests, as well as the organization of the hospital admission program and the classification of persons with possible symptoms.”

Together with our e-commerce and online payment platforms, among other facilities, this tool also fits in with the programs for the informatization of society, a cross-sectional strategy aimed at promoting the use of new technologies among the Cuban population, the official remarked.
Projects are under way in the field of health to keep extending the use of new technologies in medical files, X-rays, digital records and diagnostic tests, among other possibilities intended to improving the quality of our medical services.
