Western Cuba urged to boost control over COVID-19 case clusters

MATANZAS, Cuba, Oct 14 (ACN) The local authorities of the province of Matanzas called to work more in areas of greater epidemiological complexity and strengthen controls over clusters of cases.

Ailuj Casanova Barreto, provincial director of Public Health, pointed out that some municipalities are facing worrying situations regarding case-tracking in places with clusters of cases, to the point that the screenings have only reached the 70% mark in the last few days.
He remarked that the said screenings must not let up, since those who come spontaneously to hospitals because they have COVID-19 symptoms outnumber those found during the surveys.

According to provincial governor Marieta Poey Zamora, along with the fight against the pandemic come the measures to solve issues reported by the citizens.

“They still have many problems that are soluble, so we must redouble our efforts so that our people can get rid of difficulties not contingent on great economic resources but on the will of those who can solve them,” she said.

Liván Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas, argued that it is necessary to be more decisive and systematize the actions in order to advance little by little and strengthen the link between the community and the authorities.

During the meeting a special moment was dedicated to praise the performance of local baseball players Naykel Cruz and Andrys Pérez in the recently held U-23 world championship, in which Cuba finished fourth.
