Cuban bioproduct substitutes imports in over 500 production areas

MATANZAS, Cuba, Mar 30 ( ACN) The application in more than 500 productive scenarios in Cuba of the bioproduct IHplus, developed by the local Indio Hatuey Pasture and Forage Station, proves effective in agricultural productions and animal health.

The natural product, a mixture of fungi, yeasts and other efficient microorganisms, is characterized by its broad spectrum and contributes to the substitution of imports as an alternative to agrochemicals, thus favoring the protection of the environment and human health.

Maykelis Diaz Solares, researcher of the Station belonging to the University of Matanzas, told ACN that this year a plant was started up in the scientific entity with a capacity to produce between 800, 000 and one million liters per year.

Diaz Solare, who is also a PhD in biological sciences, explained that among the benefits of IHplus is its function as a probiotic for the feeding and health of animals such as pigs, rabbits and poultry, basically.

The expert explained that the formulation, registered since 2012, is used by different productive forms in crops such as corn, beans, sorghum and others in 94 municipalities in 15 provinces of the Caribbean island, and with a marked impact on the germination of seeds.

Indio Hatuey was founded in 1962 at the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and currently is outstanding for its results in lines such as the production of alternative animal feed, and obtaining energy from renewable sources.
