InterAcademy Partnership Group elects Cuban academic to work in scientific research

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 3 (ACN) The InterAcademy Partnership Group (IAP) selected Consuelo Macias Abraham, Regular Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, to collaborate in the setting up and writing of a document on regenerative medicine.

The group, led by the president of IAP, Dr. Volker ter Meulen, director of the Institute of Virology and Immunobiology of the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, will work virtually and will release its results later this year.
According to an article published in the Cuban science and technology magazine Juventud Tecnica, the group will provide scientific knowledge, expertise and ethical assessments on the major advances in regenerative medicine, which include gene therapies, the use of stem cells and tissue engineering.
Dr. Macias Abraham is the current Director of the Cuban National Institute of Hematology and Immunology, an institution belonging to the Ministry of Public Health and has an extensive curriculum related to these subjects.
Her experience is especially based on the use of stem cells and, lately, on the use of autoimmune plasma to fight COVID-19.
