Honduran authorities praise work of Cuban doctors during Covid-19 pandemic

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 28 (ACN) The Cuban medical brigade was recognized with the Cruz de Comendador medal by the Honduran Congress in tribute to the intense work it developed against COVID-19 in that Latin American country.

In a virtual session, Antonio Rivera, vice president of the legislative body, pointed out that Cuban doctors have always accompanied the people of his country, according to Prensa Latina News Agency.
He stated that one of the most significant aid for Honduras in recent years has been the health services of the Caribbean island, present in the most adverse situations such as hurricanes Fifi and Mitch and currently in the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Cuban doctor Blanca Toymil, coordinator of the medical representation, explained that in a symbolic way the award also corresponds to her colleagues who for 20 years, until May 2019, maintained an uninterrupted presence in Honduras, during which they offered 29 million of medical consultations.
In almost 80 days, Cuban professionals, together with their Honduran colleagues, visited more than 13,000 houses in the northern department of Cortés.
Since last April, the brigade, made up of a dozen nurses and four doctors, transmitted its experience and solidarity in Honduran soil.
