Cuban university and decision-makers discuss use of scientific results

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 27 (acn) The University of Oriente (UO) holds meetings with leaders of the province of Santiago de Cuba, the main decision makers, in order to apply the results of research and scientific projects of great impact on the economy and the society.

Rosa María Reyes, UO research vice-rector explained to Cuban News Agency that to foster sustainable development and improve social well-being highly qualified professionals and the ability to innovate and adapt technologies and knowledge are required.

She emphasized that they are engaged in exchanges with entities dedicated to food production, renewable energy, environmental and ecosystem management, biopharmaceutical products and others in order to encourage the presence of these results in the work of companies and institutions.

Reyes also stressed the importance of applying the results of scientific and technological research carried out in a planned manner in 12 lines of work, according to the needs of the territory and of Cuba and starting with the topics included in the Party and Revolutionary Guidelines to diversify Productions and substituting imports.

Seeing efficiency in energy resources and taking advantage of alternative sources is the objective of the energy network of the university , with studies in mountain areas, intricate zones and other projects put at the service of the Provincial Electric Company and entities that depend on those carriers.

The broad program delves into scientific environmental projects for the development of sustainable agriculture and addressing climate change.

In this branch, the possibilities are in local programs that close productive chains and ensure the proper use of equipment, seeds, irrigation systems and soils, among others, in order to protect the environment and mountain ecosystems.

Reyes highlighted what was done in the construction sector, in the execution of housing with technologies adapted to the seismic characteristics of the region, as well as the introduction of results in the field of health, such as magnetic resonance technology and application of biomedical images and signal processing.

Finally, the vice rector noted that they continue to work on training cadres and reserves to assimilate the results of research and enable the active and proactive process among the professors and specialists responsible for introducing these achievements in society and economy
