Cuban Street Theater Group Wins International Prize

Cuban Street Theater Group Wins International PrizeMATANZAS, Cuba, May 12 (acn) The Ramon Batalla Award, recently given to El Miron Cubano group of this city during the Vila-Real International Festival of Street Theatre, of Spain, encourages the work of street theater in Cuba, asserted on Friday Rocio Rodriguez, director of the group.

This award acknowledges the work of El Miron in the preparation of the Day of Street Theater marked every two years in Matanzas, and to honor the meeting is to honor all those taking part in the cultural program, Rodriguez said at a news conference.
A cobble from the historic center of the city of Vila-Real in the Spanish province of Castellon is the object that enriches its symbolism by becoming the Ramon Batalla Honorary Award, created to encourage the development of research and the arts.
The non-commercial nature of the Day in which groups from different regions of Cuba work without compensation for their performances was a feature of the festival in Matanzas, which attracted those who participated in the theoretical sessions of the 29th Festival of Vila-Real.
