SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Apr 16 (ACN) After busy days of artistic and documentary presentations, art exhibitions, talks and reflection, the 23rd International Conference on African and African-American Culture closed its doors in this city.
Held at the Centro Cultural Africano “Fernando Ortiz”, the event featured work commissions, workshops, panels, and the presentation of 75 papers about women in Africa and in the Diaspora and their role in family and society by researchers from Cuba, Colombia, Brazil, Spain, United States, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Angola, Timor Leste, Haiti, Gambia, Zimbabwe, Guinea-Bissau, South Africa and St. Lucia.
Most of the topics discussed were related to books written by women and to the historical solidarity of Cuban medicine with the so-called black continent and other countries, as well as to religion, education, science and sports.
The Cuban editor Rosa Margarita Rodriguez thanked the participants, the diplomatic corps accredited in the island, the staff of the “Fernando Ortiz” and the institutions that work every year to organize this Conference, considered as one of the main academic and socialization platforms for research about the African influence on this part of the world.
It was announced that the 24th International Conference will be dedicated to African and African-American children.
