CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Apr 2 (ACN) Six coastal or water-related communities in the central province of Cienfuegos will receive the participants of the 13th International Meeting Presence of Paulo Freire, scheduled to be held May 2-6 in this territory.
Manuel Gradaille Martinez, coordinator of the event, told the Cuban News Agency that as the thematic focus of the event is "Community resilience in the face of climate change", they intend to see in situ the educational and participatory actions of the inhabitants of these areas located on the coast of Cienfuegos or related to fresh water.
The popular council of Ciego Montero in the municipality of Palmira, the Camilo Cienfuegos locality of the Southern Circuit, in Cumanayagua; Junco Sur, Laguna del Cura, Castillo-Cen and Rancho Luna, in the provincial capital, are the communities selected for the exchange between educators and researchers from different nations and the inhabitants of these Cienfuegos sites.
Gradaille Martinez explained that there will be several scientific sessions for the presentation of lectures, posters, and videos, as well as other sessions to reflect on practical experiences in coastal environments or those related to medicinal and mining water.
The event will also include a debate on resilient processes in the face of climate change in communities, based on inclusive education, and the theoretical and practical contributions of Popular Education.
They will also address the green map, an option for the diagnosis and preservation of natural and cultural, tangible and intangible heritage from the communities.
Freire was born on September 19, 1921 in Recife, Brazil, and developed a large pedagogical work, focused on popular education, until his death on May 2, 1997.
