Book of poems translated into Spanish by the Brazilian writer presented in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 19 (ACN) The book "Poemas de la remembranza y otros movimientos" (Poems of Remembrance and Other Movements), a text translated into Spanish by Brazilian writer Conceição Evaristo under the seal of Arte y Literatura Publishing House, was presented today at the Morro Cabaña Historic-Military Park, at the 32nd Havana International Book Fair.

Virgilio Lopez Lemus, professor, researcher and translator of the pages, told the Cuban News Agency in an exclusive interview that the process was difficult given the language used by the author and her technicalities.

Lopez Lemus pointed out that the edition in question was published in 2024 but the original book has been in existence for more than 15 years.

The renowned researcher described Conceição Evaristo as one of the most remarkable storytellers and novelists of black culture in the Americas, and a true author of the mestizaje of the Afro-American region.

Cuban writer and editor Gertrudis Ortiz Carrero, better known as Tula, explained that the book is made up of a little more than 120 pages in which the Brazilian intellectual deals with themes related to family, ethnicity, miscegenation and childhood memories.

Concepción Evaristo highlighted as a quality in her work the combination of written text and orality.

She also recalled her first trip to Cuba in 2005 where she shared with outstanding writers such as Teresa Cardenas, Nancy Morejon and Georgina Herrera.

Conceição Evaristo (1946) is the author of renowned works such as "Lágrimas insumisas de mujeres"(Tears unsubmissive of women) (2014), "Ojos de agua"(Eyes of water) (2014) and "Canção de cuna para niño grande" (Lullaby for big boy) (2018).
