Diaz-Canel will receive Fiji's prime ministerHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 2 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, will receive this Wednesday and hold official talks with Fijian Prime Minister Josaia Voreque Bainimarama, who is in the Caribbean nation as part of an official visit.

The meeting is scheduled for the afternoon, after the distinguished visitor pays tribute to the most universal of Cubans, as he will place a floral offering at his feet at the José Martí Memorial in Havana.
The morning of Josaia Voreque Bainimarama will be marked by a tour of the roots of Colonial Havana, in its Historic Center, and a visit to the Casa de Asia established there, as part of its first official activities since its arrival in the Cuban capital yesterday.
As part of the Prime Minister's agenda, tomorrow he will visit the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), an important Cuban research-productive complex, to learn firsthand the progress shown by the Caribbean nation in a key sector for development.
Prensa Latina recalls that the presence of Josaia Voreque Bainimarama coincides with the recent pronouncement of both nations to strengthen their ties during the visit made to Fiji Emilio Lozada, director general of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.
This visit is the first of such a high level since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2002, and therefore appears as an opportunity to promote political dialogue and bilateral cooperation.
These ties are accompanied by the opening in May 2017 of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Fiji, with concurrence in eleven Pacific Islands.
Cuba's collaboration with that island is developing in the field of education, as it has so far graduated 11 professionals from Fiji, while 24 students are studying medicine in the country.
Fiji is a group of 322 volcanic islands and 522 atolls located in the South Pacific, southwest of Honolulu and north of New Zealand, with an area of 18,270 square kilometers and a population of 884,817 inhabitants.
