The diplomat told Prensa Latina that it is a very high honor to receive an award that also represents the recognition of China to the contribution of the leader of the Caribbean island to develop close ties uninterruptedly for 59 years.
Ramirez received last Sunday the Medal of Friendship from the hands of the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, in a ceremony carried out in the Great Palace of the People of Beijing where other 41 national and foreign personalities were also recognized.
Raul Castro is one of six international honorees and his selection is considered a ratification of the excellent state of relations between Havana and Beijing since its establishment on September 28, 1960.
The Friendship Medal is a golden and blue medal with a dove in flight, the Earth and two shaken hands surrounded by lotuses in all their splendor, symbolizing harmony and friendship between the Chinese people and other nations.
