HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 25 (ACN) One of the oldest social organizations in the world, the National Association of Cuban Bartenders (ACC), celebrated on Monday, in this capital, its 95th anniversary with the recognition of personalities, institutions and members who have made it possible to continue being useful in sectors such as gastronomy and tourism.
In the Parisien cabaret of the Hotel Nacional, certificates for 15 and 20 years were awarded to more than 80 members of its existing base bodies in the provinces, and diplomas to directors and specialists of entities and organizations that have supported the ACC, as well as the Medal of Merit of the Cuban barman and the card of Honorary Member to a group of bartenders.
José Rafa Malém, president of the Cuban Bartenders Association, underlined the happy coincidence of the anniversary with the year in which Havana celebrates its 500th anniversary, which is why they dedicate to it as many events and actions that take place during 2019, but above all the eagerness to always offer a highly competitive and excellent service.
Precisely the celebration of the 95 years of the organization included the awarding of a cocktail contest called Variantes nuevas de cocteles de los años 20, in greeting to the half millennium of the capital and whose winner was Yosmer Mendoza Medrano, worker of the Tryp Habana Libre hotel.
In his words of welcome in the act Rafa Malém underlined that the slogan of Fraternity and Progress with which the former Club de Cantineros de la República de Cuba (CCRP) emerged on June 27, 1924, the first in the world, is still valid among the more than two thousand associates of the organization continuing its principles. He remembered its founders and bartenders, many of them champions in national and international events, who over the years, with their cocktails, combinations and mixtures, gave honor and prestige to the current ACC, and especially to Cuban history and culture.
Among the establishments and institutions recognized today were Havana Club Internacional, the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, the bar-restaurant Floridita, the Registry of Associations of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Tourism and the Federation of Culinary Associations of the Republic of Cuba.
The purpose of the organization in its last lustrums has been through courses, workshops and conferences to raise the level of preparation of its members and those international bartenders who are interested in learning about the culture of the Cuban cantina and its cocktails.
The CCRC was constituted in Havana on June 27, 1924, its first president was José Cuervo, and as secretary, Cristóbal Alonso, while its official headquarters was located in Prado No. 111, in a building of four floors, with a logo embedded in the floor, and which still remains there today and where you can read the slogan "Fraternity and Progress".
The club had a very active life until 1960, when it disintegrated to form part of a National Gastronomic Union, but on March 4, 1998 it was reconstituted in coordination with Havana Club International S.A. under the new name of Asociación de Cantineros de Cuba.
