HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, held a fruitful day of work on Tuesday at the seat of government in Moscow with Yuri Borisov, Vice President of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Cabrisas and Borisov, who co-chair the Cuban-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Collaboration, acknowledged the progress made since the last meeting of co-chairs, held at the end of January in the Russian capital.
In his intervention, the Russian Vice-Premier was emphatic in rejecting the measures of economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the Island, pointing out that under these circumstances, "Cuba could count on the support of Russia".
Our relations have a longstanding character of friendship, and Russia has a secure ally in Cuba in the Latin American and Caribbean region, Borisov said.
Vice President Cabrisas acknowledged the sustained growth of bilateral economic trade in recent years, although he acknowledged that there are enormous untapped potentials yet to be exploited.
At the same time, he thanked the Eurasian nation for its solidarity and support in the face of Washington's iron blockade against Cuba, the intensification of financial persecution and, more recently, the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
Both leaders, accompanied by the delegations of the respective countries, reviewed the status of implementation of projects prioritized for economic and social development in the medium and long term of Cuba, in which the Russian Federation has an effective participation.
In the same way, they evaluated the possibilities to promote the increase of Cuban exports to Russia, in order to diminish the existing commercial imbalance.
During today's meeting, the Cuban vice-president also had a meeting with Dimitri Patrushev, Minister of Agriculture, in which the sustained growth of the bilateral commercial exchange in the agricultural sector was confirmed, and the potentialities for cooperation in the citrus and fruit area were examined.
Cabrisas also held meetings with the Director General of the Russian Export Center, Andrei Slepniov; the Director General of the Export Insurance Agency EXIAR; the Vice President of Bank VEB.ru (former Vnesheconombank) Dimitri Algulian; the Vice President of Promsviazbank, Alexei Tiupanov; the Director General of the ROSCOSMOS Corporation, Dimitri Rogozin, as well as the Director General of the GAZ Automotive Group, Vadim Sorokin.
