Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey visits Cuba

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey visits CubaHAVANA, Cuba, May 17 (ACN) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will make an official visit to Cuba starting this May 17, announced the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The distinguished visitor's agenda contemplates official conversations with Cuban authorities and other activities.
Cuba and Turkey have maintained diplomatic relations since 1952, and in recent years have sought a relaunching of their trade links and exchanges at the government level.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Havana in 2015, and in that exchange several areas of mutual cooperation were discussed, on issues such as trade and investment, tourism, infrastructure and air transport.
Last February, two bilateral agreements were signed to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries, following the first session of a Business Committee held in the Cuban capital and the visit of a delegation from the Eurasian country.
During the event, the 2019-2020 Action Plan was signed, which contemplates actions aimed at promoting trade and investment, such as the exchange of information, the organization of business missions, participation in fairs and other modalities of exploration of the respective markets.
The Plan will strengthen bilateral trade relations through direct exchange between companies, attracting Turkish investment in sectors of interest to both parties, promoting exports of Cuban products and services to Turkey and supplying products from the Eurasian country to the Caribbean, explained the Island's Chamber of Commerce in a note.
Likewise, the Group of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba (Biocubafarma) and the Association of Pharmacists of Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at increasing collaboration.
Turkey and Cuba also cooperate on regional and international platforms. Turkey votes every year for the resolution entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba" at the UN.
