HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 2 (ACN) Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), received Shao Hong, Vice President of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CCPPCh), and the delegation that accompanies him on his official visit to Cuba, at the Capitol in Havana on Monday.

We hope to promote economic-commercial relations and strengthen friendship between the two peoples, said Hong during the exchange, and highlighted the historical ties and cooperation that for almost 60 years have united the two nations.

Shao Hong conveyed a greeting from the presidents of the National People's Assembly and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and commented that Cuba was the country chosen to initiate a series of high-level visits of the CCPPCh precisely because of the importance they attach to bilateral relations.

Lazo Hernandez recalled that China is the Caribbean nation's second largest trading partner, and said the Cuban government also gives priority to diplomatic ties with the Asian giant, "which have stood the test of time and U.S. attempts to interfere in them," he said.

Lazo highlighted the happy coincidence of receiving the distinguished visitor in the context of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the 70th anniversary of the creation of the People's Republic of China; in this sense he called for continuing to strengthen relations between peoples, parties and governments.

He spoke of the constant exchanges between members of both bodies, and also highlighted the visit made last November by President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to the Asian nation, when he had the opportunity to talk with the president of the Standing Committee of the XIII Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

The head of the Cuban legislature also updated the visitors on national events, and referred in particular to the new Constitution of the Republic, ratified in a referendum last February 24.

Incidentally, he pointed out that the new Magna Carta, modern and inclusive, will be proclaimed on April 10, the date on which the 150th anniversary of the first Cuban Constitution is celebrated.

Hong also expressed the admiration and respect that the Chinese feel for the Cuban people, and expressed confidence that the new Law of Laws will lay the foundations for the development of the country.

The political leader reported on the progress of the Chinese initiative of the Belt and Route, which proposes to connect several continents by sea and land, in a giant network of infrastructure, products and capital, among others, with shared interests and responsibilities; to which Cuba has already joined along with other countries in the region.

The Consultative Political Conference of the Chinese People is a political advisory body of the People's Republic of China, and its representatives arrived in Havana to fulfill an invitation made by the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, and also plan to visit the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the House of Friendship and a non-agricultural cooperative.

Also participating in the meeting, on the Cuban side, were Ana María Mari Machado, vice-president of the ANPP; Rolando González Patricio, vice-president of the International Relations Commission of the parliament; Caridad Diego Bello, president of the Cuba-China Parliamentary Friendship Group; and Omar Torres Olivares, official of the auxiliary offices of the National Assembly.
