HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 7 (ACN) The 10th Congress of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) is being held today in the Conventions Center of this capital city.
The meeting, which brings together some 360 delegates and 40 guests, will focus on gender equality in the family and society, youth as a guarantee of the continuity of the FMC, and internal issues.
In a press conference, Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and secretary general of the FMC, announced that a plenary session, the discussion of the central report, the presentation of the FMC National Committee and the recognition of the outstanding provinces will take place on this day.
She also announced that tomorrow there will be a declaration of solidarity with the women of the world regarding the international date, as well as the closing ceremony.
She noted that some pre-congress activities have been carried out, such as the tribute to grandmothers in all the cities of the country and the delivery of orders Ana Betancourt and Mariana Grajales, to 20 and 5 women respectively.
Teresa Amarelle Boué pointed out some advances of the organization between the IX and the X Congress, among which is the overcoming of all the indicators as for the level of feminine participation in the positions of direction and seats of the parliament.
Other relevant aspects have been the annual incorporation to the FMC of at least 56 thousand young people aware of the relevance of the organization, the fact that several girls are general secretaries, and the conformation of multidisciplinary teams of family care.
In addition, she pointed out, the 2016 application of the National Equality Survey, which among its main results includes 96 percent of the sample recognizing that Cuba has equal rights and opportunities.
