Cuban Sierra climbs to ninth in road cycling world ranking

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 5 (acn) Despite not competing by these days, Cuban Arlenis Sierra climbed to the ninth seat in the road cycling world ranking, due to fluctuations in the top 10 positions.

Sierra, captain of the Astana Women's Team, along with Heidy Praderas, her countrywoman in that club, will attend five stages of the 6th Cuban National Classic, to run from next March 12-17.
In the UCI global list of last month, Sierra appeared 10 with 1,098 points, but Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma fell three spots and now ranks 11th with 979.67 units; while Dutch Ellen Van Dijk also fell back one seat and now ranks 10th, with 1,090.57 points.

The UCI women´s world ranking remains headed by Dutch cyclists and the new leader is Annemiek Van Vleuten (1,891.86), who is escorted by Marianne Voss (1,764.88) and Anna Van Der Breggen (1,727), in that order.
This season, Sierra won the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race last January, after finishing third in the Towards Zero Race and in the first stage of the Santos Women´s Tour, all in Australia.
The outstanding Cuban rider, who is 26, remained in the top ten in 25 out of 32 races and stages of the UCI official calendar she run between March 9 and September 29, 2018.
