Cuban Albornoz achieves second draw in Swiss Chess Tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 1 (acn) Cuban IM Carlos Daniel Albornoz achieved his second draw in the Accentus Young Masters 2019, which runs in the Swiss city of Bad Ragaz.

The current Cuban national senior champion, who is only 18 and owns 2,577 Elo points, drew this time with Russian GM Nikita Petrov (2,585) in 40 moves of a Reti Opening, according to the official website of the contest.
Thus, he accumulates 1 unit and ranks tied in the 5-6 seats of the standings as in the debut he also signed peace with German GM Dennis Wagner (2,587).
In yesterday´s other matches, Wagner beat the local IM Oliver Kurmann (2,454); German IM Lev Yankelevich (2,445) won over his countryman IM Luis Engel (2,469) and the also hosts FM Theo Stijve (2,333) and GM Noel Studer (2,494) defeated Swiss FM Aurelio Colmenares (2,335) and Austrian IM Dominik Hovarth (2,419), in that order.
After those results, Studer is the solo leader with a couple of wins and two points, followed by Wagner, Yankelevich and Petrov, all with 1.5 units; Albornoz and Stijve (1 each); while Hovarth, Engel and Kurman amount ½ unit each; and Colmenares appears last with two losses and no point.
Today, the third round includes a very interesting match between Petrov and Wagner and the rest of the pairings are Stijve - Albornoz; Horvath – Colmenares; Engel – Studer and Kurmann – Yankelevich.
The Accentus Young Masters 2019 is a 10-player round-robin tournament taking place from February 27 to March 7.
