Cuba and Turkey sign cooperation agreements

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 28 (ACN) Two bilateral agreements to strengthen economic and trade relations between Cuba and Turkey were signed today during the closing of the Business Committee between the two countries, which took place in this capital.

The first of them is an action plan in tourism cooperation between the ministry that serves the sector in the Republic of Cuba and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey; while the second was the minutes of the Fourth Follow-up Meeting between the foreign trade ministries of the Caribbean nation and the Eurasian nation.

As part of the closing ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ileana Núñez Mordoche, stressed that it was an honor to participate in the sessions with Turkish officials, whose meetings transcended the interest in collaborating and the potentialities that exist in this regard.

According to the official, areas have been identified in which it is possible to work and have concrete results, mainly in the business sector, health, agriculture, construction, industry, transportation, tourism, finance and biotechnology.

With what was signed, she insisted, an action plan is outlined in a sector that is strategic for the Cuban economy, and, therefore, prioritized by the government, and the work that remains to come is projected.

Gonca Yılmaz Batur, vice minister of Commerce of that Eurasian country, commented that in recent days very fruitful meetings have taken place, and thanked the hospitality and support of Cuban diplomacy in Ankara.

We are eager to improve economic and trade relations with Cuba, she said, and mentioned that the signing of documents summarizes the effort and all that has been advanced in these days.

Nevertheless, she emphasized, we are interested not only in signing these documents, but also in putting them into practice in real life, in order to achieve a better rapprochement between the two nations.

In the context of the official visit of the Turkish business delegation to the island, exchanges took place between businessmen from the energy, mining, agriculture, trade, maritime transport of cargo and passengers, biotechnology and health sectors.

The program of the event included a presentation of the Mariel Special Development Zone, the signing of the Action Plan of the Cuba-Turkey Business Committee for the period 2019-2020, the attraction of investments in sectors of interest to both parties, the promotion of exports of products and services, business meetings and visits to Cuban counterparts of the sectors present in the business delegation.
