Cuba: Over 190,000 cubic meters of solid waste collected after tornadoHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 6 (ACN) Brigades of the Provincial Communal Services Directorate have collected over 190,000 cubic metres of debris left in the wake of a powerful tornado that hit Havana on January 27.

Onelio Ojeda López, director of the entity, highlighted today in a press conference the work carried out by the workers of the sector, who from the first moment went to the affected areas to unblock the roads and allow the brigades to re-establish electricity and communications services.
He also highlighted the support received by the population in the sanitation work that was carried out since last Monday, as well as the reinforcement provided by the municipalities that were not affected.
The official said that the city normally generates about 23 thousand cubic meters of solid waste daily, of which only managed to collect just over 19 thousand, but on these days they have collected an average of 35 thousand.
Regarding the number of trees affected, he pointed out that the figure amounts to 1,649, of which 1,069 have been moved away already
On the night of Sunday, Jan. 27, an intense tornado EF4 - the name of the scale for measuring it, the highest category of which is EF5 - hit Havana, with winds estimated at 300 kilometers per hour.
The weather event resulted in six deaths and more than 190 injuries, as well as 3,780 houses affected.
