Havana in rehabilitation phase after passage of a tornadoHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) Havana is in the rehabilitation phase after the passage of the tornado that that caused severe local storms, winds and damage in several of its municipalities.

Regla, Guanabacoa, Diez de Octubre, San Miguel del Padron and Habana del Este were the most affected areas, was known in a meeting of the Provincial Defense Council attended by Antonio Torres Iribar, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party in the Cuban capital, and other officials.
The main losses in communications and electricity services occurred because of the fallen lamp posts and trees, according to Mario Castillo, general director of the Electricity Company in Havana.
According to Castillo, more than one million inhabitants were without electric service last night and thanks to the quick response of 40 brigades that are working, electricity has been restored for almost half of that figure.
There were also losses of water tanks, so leaders of the National Institute of Water Resources announced that they may be acquired.
It was also known that the Hijas de Galicia mother and child hospital, located in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, was one of the most damaged by the atmospheric phenomenon and patients have been transferred to other health centers, where they receive proper care.
Public Health Authorities stated that 12 out of the 172 injured people are currently in serious condition.
Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, said that it is priority to provide food for people who do not have electric service, for which tents have been assembled offering at reasonable prices meals as well as bread and soft drinks.
Executives of the Ministry of Transportation noted that the movement by air must be restored in the next hours, the first of which will be that of Santiago de Cuba; and that only eight buses suffered damages.
PhD. Celso Pazos Alberdi, General Director of the Institute of Meteorology, explained that the event is an unpredictable phenomenon that is formed very quickly, it´s very intense and disappears in a short time, but leaving considerable damages.
Torres Iribar made a call to work for Havana, to do the greatest for it and remembered the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro before situations of this type in the sense that not a single citizen can be abandoned.
