Cuba to have new Atlas

Cuba to have new AtlasHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 21 (acn) A new atlas of Cuba began to be elaborated with the aim of updating the geographic information and the national reality contained on it, Granma newspaper confirmed today.

Professionals and technicians of research institutions, teachers, scientific societies and organizations of the Central State Administration are involved in the project.
The atlas will be called 60th Anniversary to pay homage to the anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which was commemorated last January 1st.
Jorge Luis Machin, director of the Tropical Geography Institute, said that it will be structured in seven thematic sections: General and Reference Maps, Nature, Population, Economy, Strategic Issues, History and Culture.
It has the peculiarity of being the first work of its kind made entirely by Cuban entities and specialists (the last one dates from 1989), as well as being implemented through an innovation project with new methods and technologies for the execution of geographic-cartographic works in Cuba.
Once completed, it will have a digital version in multimedia, an application for mobile phones and the printed variant, mainly destined to schools and libraries.
The national atlases reflect through maps and other illustrative resources the reality of a country in its different edges at a given moment and are extremely useful in supporting the processes of development planning, education and decision-making.
