HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (ACN) The Secretary General of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (alba-tcp), David Choquehuanca, announced the celebration of the 16th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the bloc next December 14 in Havana.
The ALBA-TCP "is important in a context in which dark forces want the return of neocolonialism, because to our continent the division came with the colony as well as racism, the culture of division, of war, Choquehuanca told Prensa Latina news agency in an interview.
In the summit representatives of the organization will remember the founding moment of Alba, December 14, 2004, and its two promoters, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.
In the words of Choquehuanca the two leaders were, "two visionary brothers, extraordinary, in a meeting decided to build an unprecedented space of integration that encompasses all issues, not only trade, which builds brotherhood, unity, hope, peace.
This Summit is also taking place in a difficult context for the progressive movements of Our America.
Last November, the seventeenth session of the Political Council of the bloc was held in Managua, the Nicaraguan capital, where the commitment to Latin American and Caribbean unity was reiterated and the need to strengthen unity in diversity was reaffirmed.
There it was agreed to hold this new meeting in Havana, the emblematic site for Latin American unity, where the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace was signed on January 29, 2014, during the II Celac Summit, and whose postulates are today more necessary than ever.
