Cuba's energy, oil and gas conference kicks off in HavanaHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 Dec 5 (ACN) The 2nd Cuba Energy 2018 Conference will begin this Wednesday at the Meliá Cohíba Hotel, with the purpose of providing detailed information to all potential investors and companies interested in establishing joint ventures in Cuba in this field.
There are numerous opportunities and priorities of Cuba for investors, partners and national and international suppliers, explained the organizers of the meeting, the Union Cuba-Petroleum (CUPET) and the Electrical Union (UNE), both of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The first session will be dedicated to the role of Cuba in the Caribbean, through new rounds of licenses and discoveries, as well as financial options and analysis of the possibilities of exploiting the reserves of liquefied natural gas (LNG), transported as liquid at atmospheric pressure, and collaboration with Caribbean companies.
Entrepreneurs from several countries will expose their experiences on the matter, according to the program of the event, facilitated to the Cuban News Agency by Manuela Duran Rodriguez, head of Communication Management Group of CUPET.
In the second session of the day, CUPET will present its next round of negotiations, when an update on Cuban hydrocarbon exploration and production will be offered by Osvaldo López Corzo, director of the Cuba-Petroleum Union, around negotiations in the upstream sector.
The latter is one of three in the industry that includes tasks of searching for potential deposits of crude oil and natural gas, both underground and underwater, drilling and exploitation until the crude oil or natural gas reaches the surface.
The third will be the evaluation of the oil potential identified from new seismic data not exclusive to Cuba, and the fourth session an international perspective of the work of Cuba and the region, in particular the policy of the United States and its impact on foreign investment, while on Thursday deliberations of this type will continue until reaching seven.
CUPET signed in 2016 a contract with the Chinese company BGP for the execution of a marine seismic study, in order to locate the porous rocks that store hydrocarbons (oil and gas) in two directions (non-exclusive 2D).
Specialists believe that this is an activity considered low impact, which does not cause serious damage to natural resources or the environment.
