HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (ACN) The Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University (UCLV) offers all users of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) network the Academic Digital Library (BIDA by its Spanish acronym) with the aim of increasing access to quality information for students and researchers.
In statements to the press Grizly Meneses Placeres, director of Scientific Information at UCLV, stated that BIDA is also an attempt to counteract the scarce access to international bibliography with useful contents that Cuban universities have, as a cause of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Island.
This kind of on-line encyclopedia is nourished, added Meneses Placeres, by the donation of several study centers around the world as well as by the management made by librarians and professors who at one time have stayed in counterpart institutions.
Texts from internationally recognized publishers, articles from journals with high scientific impact are grouped into modules of social sciences, humanities, earth sciences and engineering, with which the user can interact through a search system similar to that used by Google.
Available from the link http://bida.uclv.edu.cu and only for the centers belonging to the MES the site is protected by the Cuban Copyright Law that allows libraries to disclose for teaching and research purposes that bibliography to which people do not have access most of the time, clarified Meneses Placeres.
The specialist concluded that BIDA is also inserted within the framework of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the library of the House of Higher Studies in the central region, which was founded in March 1959 by Commander Fidel Castro Ruz.
