Kim Jong-un received Diaz-Canel in PyongyangHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 5 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived on Sunday in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un led the huge popular reception at the capital's airport and along the main avenues, reports Prensa Latina.

Diaz-Canel and Kim Jong-un met personally in Pyongyang during the celebrations for the 55th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

From the airport slab of Sunan to the surroundings of Baekhwawon, the official residence for illustrious guests visiting the DPRK, Diaz Canel and Kim Jong-un were greeted warmly and cheered by nearly a million people.

Accompanying the Cuban president were Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, vice-president of the Council of Ministers and the ministers of Communications, Industry and Energy and Mines, Jorge Luis Perdomo, Alfredo López and Raúl García, respectively.

Also part of the delegation are the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodriguez, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rogelio Sierra Diaz, and the Director of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emilio Lozada.

That group was joined by the Cuban ambassador to the DPRK, Jesús Aise.

The fraternal relations between Cuba and the DPRK have a historical character whose foundation is found in the friendship between the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the founder of the DPRK more than 70 years ago and leader of the Korean nation, Kim Il Sung.

Cuba will continue to strengthen its close friendship with this country and attaches high priority to these relations, according to diplomatic sources quoted by Prensa Latina.

Havana and Pyongyang maintain a high level of agreement on the main issues on the international agenda and cooperation in multilateral forums, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

North Korea was part of the 189 countries that recently voted in the United Nations General Assembly for the elimination of the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and the malicious amendments that the United States tried to introduce in the document of denunciation presented by the Caribbean nation before the international community.

Cuba supports the process of rapprochement and dialogue underway on the Korean peninsula as a way to achieve lasting peace in the region, and opposes unilateral and arbitrary sanctions against Pyongyang, whose cessation has been demanded several times by the Minrex.

Diaz-Canel arrived in the city of Pyongyang from Moscow, where he was received by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and fulfilled an intense work agenda.

The arrival of the Cuban dignitary also occurs almost 58 years after the first visit of a Cuban leader to this capital, was Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, who was the object of a great people's reception on December 3, 1960 and received the embrace of leader Kim Il-Sung, says the source.

Thus begins the tour of the president of the island by the four socialist countries of Asia, which will extend to China, Vietnam and Laos, until the second Monday of this month.

The Cuban president will stay in Pyongyang until next Tuesday.
