Cuban Despaigne homers twice in JapanHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 8 (acn) Cuban Alfredo Despaigne blasted two home runs today in the 6-1 win of his club, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, over the Chiba Lotte Marines, in the Pacific circuit of the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB).

In this match, Despaigne hit 2 for 3 with five RBIs and those were his 28th and 29th homers of the season.
Now he appears fifth among the leaders of the Pacific League, which heads Hotake Yamaka, of the Saitama Seibu Lions, with 47.
The also Cuban Yurisbel Gracial hit 2 for 3, including a double, in the aforementioned game and the two Caribbean players amassed four of the Hawks' eight hits, thus securing a berth to the postseason along with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters and the Lions, the latter was the leader of the circuit.
So far, Despaigne has batting average of .238, result of 97 hits in 407 at-bats, with 15 doubles, one triple and 74 RBIs, while Gracial averages .292, with 54 hits, including six doubles, one triple and nine homers and 30 RBIs in only 54 games played.
Another Cuban, LHP Livan Moinelo, also plays with the Hawks and is being used as setup reliever with balance of 5 wins and only one loss in 45.2 innings, with 57 strikeouts, 24 BBs and ERA of 4.53.
The latter and Despaigne were with the Hawks last season when they were NPB champions and Despaigne was homerun and RBI leader of the Pacific League, while the utility Gracial was hired this year to defend the crown.
