FAO highlights defense of the human right to food in CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 4 (ACN) from its Draft Constitution, Cuba defends the human right to food, an initiative in line with the goal of eradicating hunger by 2030 in the world, said Marcelo Resende, representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Havana.

During a tour of the Research Institute for the Food Industry (IIIA), carried out as part of the actions for World Food Day - October 16-, the official learned about the main advances of the center, as well as its lines of research and projects.
Resende highlighted as positive the contribution of the IIIA for food in the country, mainly its results in the development of soy yogurt and school snack products.
He also recognized the institute for creating the nutritional supplement Bioestimulín, supporting the feeding of infants with lactose intolerance, and focusing its studies on the most vulnerable groups of the Cuban population: children, the elderly and pregnant women.
According to the diplomat, the IIIA should share the experience of its scientific research with sister countries, which would help work towards a healthy and sustainable diet elsewhere in the world.
The Research Institute for the Food Industry was founded in 1977 with the help of this United Nations organization, a link that has been maintained for 40 years, said Gloria Almandoz, international relations specialist at the Ministry of Food Industry.
