Cuban President Diaz-Canel holds high-level meetings in New YorkHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 26 (ACN) The President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel, develops an intense agenda of bilateral meetings with high dignitaries of nations and international organizations attending the LXXIII session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

The Cuban leader met with the high representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, who last January made her third official visit to Havana, occasion on which she reiterated the willingness of the community group to advance in the ties with the Island.

At another time Díaz-Canel spoke with the executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, who had already met with the Cuban head of state in Havana during the 37th session of the regional body last May.

On this second day of the Cuban President's participation in the UN, he exchanged views with his counterparts from Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, and Angola, Joao Lourenco, and the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.

These conversations are in addition to those held during the morning with the presidents of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and Argentina, Mauricio Macri, and the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez.

Díaz-Canel arrived in New York last Sunday to participate in the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, dedicated to paying tribute to the South African anti-racist leader, in whose Monday session he delivered a speech in which he stated that international that international peace remains threatened by the philosophy of domination.
