ZAPATA SWAMP, Cuba, Aug 6 (ACN) Over one thousand 900 persons have visited the Bay of Pigs Museum so far this year, among them 544 foreigners said Dulce Maria Limonta del Pozo, Director of the institution.

The history of the historic event in April of 1961 which was the first great defeat of imperialism in Latin America is an attraction for Cubans and foreigners especially its audiovisual materials, uniforms of the combatants and artillery pieces, said Dulce Maria.

Limonta del Pozo commented that the most moving piece among the almost two thousand treasured objects in the museum are the shoes of Nemesia Rodriguez Montano, surviving victim of the mercenary attack which was immortalized by a poem of Jesus Orta Ruiz known as el Indio de Nabori.

The director explained that the institution remains linked to the community in particular during the current season, which includes summer lectures dedicated to Cuban authors like Dora Alonso, and Jose Marti aimed at attracting children and encourage them to read.

The museum will inaugurate an exhibition dedicated in remembering the details of the last visit of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
