Cuban Health Minister Insists in the Quality of ServicesPINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Jun 20 (ACN) Cuba's Health Minister and Vice President of the Council of State Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda highlighted on Wednesday in Pinar del Rio the need to offer quality service to the population and preserve the results of the province.

During a working visit to the western province, Morales evaluated the currently transformations in the sector in its third stage, destined in resolving the current difficulties regarding quality that generate discomfort among the population.

He pointed out that it has a lot to do with recovering the concepts of the family doctor and nurse to guarantee solutions to over 70 percent of the health issues in primary attention.

The province is taking steps and has a program, which includes repairing family doctor offices, improvements of the infrastructures; but we must achieve the efficient use of the resources with quality in everything we do, said the Health Minister.

The Cuban Health Minister visited the Leon Cuervo Rubio Surgical Hospital in the city of Pinar del Rio to learn on the current construction work in the general medicine service and teaching areas with the conclusion of a theater that will facilitate the academic and scientific activities.

Morales Ojeda spoke with workers, patients and families, emphasized in the importance of taking care of the centers, and stressed that the refurbishing and maintenance program is an example of development.

He pointed out that actions taken in 2017 improved a significant group of wards, services and departments.

Together with the local Government and Party in the province, he said, we evaluated the process of the program in the second semester which includes water supply, an important resource for the work of any health center.

The Health Minister highlighted the achievements of Pinar del Rio in the Maternal-Infant Program. They maintain an infant mortality rate of two per one thousand live births and no deaths of mothers have been reported.

Morales insisted in the need to work on family planning, follow-ups to infertile couples, and "concern in the country in personalized attention related to births and fertility above all to the decreased tendency in recent years".

Regarding the epidemiological situation, the Health Minister pointed out that Pinar del Rio does not have the presence of dengue, zika, chikungunya or any of the digestive transmittable illnesses.

However, he urged to maintain quality work in the anti-mosquito program to achieve a reduction of the levels of infestation of the aedes aegypti mosquito.
