Pioneer School Children and Youth in General Pay Tribute to Antonio Maceo and Che

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Jun 14 (ACN) Pioneer schoolchildren and students from Pre-university level and youth in general, in representation of the new generations paid tribute on Thursday in Camaguey to Ernesto Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo on occasion of their birthdays.

During a ceremony in their honor, presided by the First Secretary of the Communist Party in the province, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, 50 pioneers of the Jose Luis Tasende Primary School in Camaguey were recognized with the June 14th Distinction, one of the three granted during the school year to those that achieve important results in their studies.

In addition, 90 students received their red scarf making them full members of the Jose Marti Pioneer Organization and promised to be loyal continuers of the Young Communist League, UJC.

The First Secretary of the Municpal Committee of the UJC, Nislay Napoles said that the youth in Camaguey ratified their commitment to take on major responsibilities and work in the consolidation of better economic and social outcomes in the territory.

On the day in which the population is paying tribute to the birth of two heroes of Cuban history 90 youths were granted the membership of the UJC and Communist Party pledged continuity of the revolutionary process.

Commemorating the 173rd and 90th anniversaries of Maceo and Che, respectively, youths from the Archeology Department of the City Historian's office in Camaguey, universities and other members of the Marti Youth Movement will hike, as they do each year, to the Tuabaquey Mountain in the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas.
