Latin American Event is Informed on Cuban Informatics Process

VARADERO, Cuba, Jun 12 (ACN) A panel on the advances of informatics in Cuban Society was held prior to the inauguration on Tuesday of the 6 th Latin American Telecommunications Congress at the Melia Marina Varadero Hotel in Matanzas province.

The Deputy Communications Minister Wilfredo Gonzalez Vidal told the Cuban and foreign representatives that the strategic program include two main principles: the implementation of the economic and social guidelines approved at the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party and the National Development Plan to the year 2030.

He also referred to the approval of the informatics policy in Cuban society by the Council of Ministers last year to be implemented in a safe and sustainable manner.

The Telecommunications Vice Minister said that it's a priority for the Ministry to guarantee cyber-security to avoid attacks against the country and the development of human capital to move forward for the informatics process.

According to Gonzalez Vidal, the Communications Ministry (Mincom) is involved in the development of a group of prioritized projects among them related to informatics terminals, generating contents and digital services.

He added that they are working to strengthen the software industry with intangible development policies, technological parks (Matanzas already as one) and the support of foreign investment.

The specialist informed that they are working in 22 projects among them the expansion of Internet access aimed at the comprehensive formation of the population and the promotion of the Cuban reality to the world.

In addition to the creation of new payment methods, assembly of informatics machinery and computers and he development of land digital television which currently includes over 7 million people.

The Vice Minister added that they are promoting the Government Electronic project and the Citizens Assistance in addition to the implementation of electronic trade with a national bridge of commerce and payment and the creation of virtual stores to sell goods and services.

The 6th Latin American Telecommunications Congress underway in Cuba for the first time, is the most important event of the sector in the region whose objective is to look for mechanisms that will promote exchange and the integration of the member nations.
