High Ranking Cuban Authorities Meet after Air AccidentHAVANA, Cuba, May 18 (ACN) President of the Council of State and Ministers Miguel Diaz-Canel led a first meeting of the Cuban government to ratify and offer new instructions of the air accident on Friday afternoon in Havana.

According to a report by Cuban Television, the maximum Cuban authorities met at the Council of State where First Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa was also present.

The meeting was held while the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Army General Raul Castro Ruz was following the situation and offered instructions.

Raul who is successfully recovering from recent surgery to remove a hernia expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the tragic accident of the Boeing 272-200 that crashed close to the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana.

According to an interview aired on Cuban television, Transportation Minister Adel Yzquierdo said that an investigation on the causes of the accident will be carried out and the results will be informed to the population.

He added that a Technical Commission of Civil Aeronautics was created which will contribute to the causes of the accident while the location where the aircraft fell will be preserved.

Yzquierdo highlighted the fast assistance of the people in the surrounding area and neighbors of the site who contributed to the rescue of the survivors.

Deputy Transportation Minister, Eduardo Rodriguez confirmed that 104 passengers, five foreigners, were on board the aircraft that was leased by Cubana Airlines to the Mexican company Damojh that was leaving Havana on route to the city of Holguin in the east.
