Cuban Foreign Minister Begins European TourHAVANA, Cuba, May 14 (ACN) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla arrived on Monday to Brussels, Belgium in the first stop of a European tour that will also take him to Switzerland.

Cuba's ambassador to Belgium, Norma Goicochea welcomed the top diplomat who is to participate on Tuesday to the First Cuba-European Union Joint Council.

The Council, entity originating from the provisional application of the Political and Cooperation Dialog Agreement between Cuba and the European Union, will look over the cooperation programs in areas like energy, agriculture and other aspects that will allow reinforcing the bilateral framework.

According to a news report from the European Council, the First Joint Council will push forward bilateral cooperation relations.

The encounter will be held on the bases of respect, equality and reciprocity.

There are favorable conditions and opportunities to increase economic, commercial and investment and cooperation relations and for a more active and effective participation of the EU in the economic-social development plans in Cuba, said the news note.

The high-ranking representatives of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini condemned the US economic, financial and commercial blockade against the island during her third official visit to Cuba.

She said that the almost 60-year-old hostile policy is not the solution and characterized it as obsolete and illegal.

Mogherini highlighted the opportunities that the Political Dialog and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU offers. The agreement went into effect last November and will allow increasing the level of relations that reflect the close historic, economic and cultural ties between both sides.

Rodriguez Parrilla will present on Wednesday in Geneva, the National Report on Cuba at the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Exam of the UN Human Rights Council.

The Cuban Foreign Minister will then begin an official visit to Switzerland on Thursday May 17th and other activities.
